Vision, Mission and Values

No matter that I’ve been out of school for 20 years, September still feels like the real New Year.  And since I’ve worked at Ryerson University, this feeling is even stronger. That feeling is compounded for me this year as I close in on my first anniversary as Vice President, Administration and Finance.

This New Year begins with a renewed energy for me and my Administration and Finance team because we worked together earlier this summer to carve out statements of our Vision, Mission and Values.

Supporting the people, financial resources and infrastructure of the University is what links my team together. Talking about our Vision, Mission and Values helps us to fully understand how we work together and allows us to clearly state this to you. For us, these statements aren’t something to put on a plaque on a wall! They are the embodiment of how we work together and with you as we continue to build this great University. These statements are us telling you what we aspire to, who we are, why we do what we do. And you can hold us to them. Because of how much they matter to us, I wanted to share them with you—hot off the press!

A Vision is an aspiration—who we want to be.

We are a team of leaders. We are nimble and dynamic. We deliver excellent, solution-oriented services and projects, aligned to Ryerson University’s strategic priorities. We consistently exceed your expectations.

A Mission is a description of what we do—what you experience day to day as you work with us.

We provide proactive solutions, expert advice, execute projects and deliver services that enable Ryerson’s diverse students, faculty and staff to achieve the University’s priorities.

Perhaps most importantly, underlying all we do are our Values. You can count on us to execute on the services, projects, advice consistent with these Values.

    • User focus
    • Collaboration
    • Respect
    • Integrity
    • Execution

I’m looking forward to an exciting 2011-12 full of new challenges, solutions and accomplishments working together. Don’t hesitate to share your thoughts with me by commenting on this blog, emailing me ( or on Twitter @hanigsberg.
